Mikael Silvertre’s absence from the Manchester United first team will not have upset him very much, given that he has been injured for the most part of the past season. But, despite this Les Girodins de Brodeaux thought they could lure the French defender back to his homeland.
This is where they were wrong. Silvestre knows that he cannot hold down a regular starting spot at Old Trafford, but his salary and the possibility of a testimonial match in his honour have persuaded him to stay at Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports.
“Yes, I think the possibility of Mikael Silvestre coming here has ended. He has a salary at Manchester United that he has no reason to forgo.” Said Jean Louis-Triod, Les Girondins’ president.
“Moreover, after 10 years at that club, there is a tradition that a friendly match is organised for the benefit of the footballer – with the revenue going to him.”
