Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola understands that Manchester United made a late attempt to sign Benfica stopper Victor Nilsson Lindelof yesterday.
It is no secret that the Red Devils have been hot on the trail of the Swedish defender, and they decided to make a fresh assault on January transfer deadline day.
Benfica chairman Luis Felipe Vieira was already in England as he negotiated the transfer of Helder Costa to Wolverhampton, and he took advantage of the opportunity to speak to Man Utd chiefs.
The Red Devils were keen on agreeing a deal, leaving the Eagles the possibility to keep hold of Lindelof until the summer, but A Bola claims no agreement has been reached.
This means that Manchester United will have to continue the fight for one of Europe’s most sought-after footballers, who has also been linked with Juventus, Inter Milan and Marseille among other clubs.
