Portuguese daily newspaper Record claims that Manchester United have emerged as frontrunners to sign Benfica full-back Nelson Semedo.
German giants Bayern Munich were also keen on the highly rated defender, but they have reportedly decided to drop their interest.
Namely, while Benfica are holding out for €35 million, the Bavarians are not prepared to pay more than €20 million, meaning they have effectively given up on Semedo.
This has cleared the path for Manchester United to recruit their long-term target, and we fully expect the Red Devils to come forward with an official proposal in the coming months.
Jose Mourinho faces serious defensive problems ahead of the Europa League fixture against Celta Vigo, where the Red Devils are priced at 17/10 to win the first leg.
Their target Nelson Semedo is widely regarded as one of Europe’s hottest prospects and he is expected to realise a big club move at the end of the season.
