Manchester Evening News has suggested that Manchester United are hot on the trail of PSG playmaker Marco Verratti.
The Red Devils look unlikely to offer a new deal to long-serving midfielder Michael Carrick in spite of his solid showings this season and they seem to want the Italy international to succeed him at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Verratti and he will attempt to bring the player to Manchester United at the end of the season even though the Saints chiefs remain adamant the 23-year-old is not for sale.
The Italian footballer is on the radar of quite a few top sides, but PSG have so far refused to negotiate his exit.
However, with the Saints failing to reach the Champions League final stages yet again after the shock 6-1 defeat to Barcelona, there is a chance that Verratti will express his desire to leave in the summer.
