Premier League giants Manchester United appear to be in pole position to sign Portuguese winger Gelson Martins from Sporting CP, according to A Bola.
The Red Devils scouts have reportedly watched the youngster in each of his appearances this season, which is enough to suggest that the Old Trafford outfit could soon step up their interest.
Jose Mourinho lacks quality options up front and he clearly wants to recruit the 21-year-old at the earliest opportunity.
The problem is that other top clubs are also keen, as Chelsea, Man City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been showing interest as well.
Martins remains one of Sporting’s lowest paid footballers even though his current release clause stands at €60 million.
The Lions, however, plan to offer the youngster a new and improved deal that would also see said clause increased to €80 million as they are clearly worried by the heavy interest in his services.
