Manchester United recently submitted an official proposal for Benfica hotshot Nicolas Gaitan, according to Al Ahli coach Cosmin Olaroiu.
The Eagles were ready to cash in on their star player in the January transfer window and it has now been revealed that they indeed received two very good offers for the Argentina international.
While Manchester United’s €30 million bid was deemed insufficient, Benfica accepted a €35 million proposal from Al Ahli, but the player did not want to move to the UAE.
“We made an offer of €35 million, which Benfica accepted, since it was higher than the €30 million offered by Manchester United,” Al Ahli coach Cosmin Olaroiu told Romanian newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor.
Nicolas Gaitan has been on the radar of top European sides for quite a while, with Atletico Madrid reportedly keen on his services as well.
It remains to be seen whether he will be leaving at the end of the current campaign, but he will certainly be looking to help Benfica in the Champions League clash against Zenit, where the Eagles are 11/10 to win the first leg.
