Portuguese media have moved to reveal that defenders Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Lopez have signed new contracts with Benfica.
Under the new agreements, both players are now tied to the Eagles until June 2021, which is great news for the club supporters.
“Benfica chose to extend the employment relationship with Lisandro López for three more sports seasons until June 30, 2021, and with Victor Lindelof until the end of the 2020/2021 season,” a statement submitted to the Portugal’s Securities and Exchange Commission (CMVM) read.
The report will come as a surprise to many considering that Victor Lindelof was heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester United, although he could still leave at the end of the season if Benfica’s asking price is matched.
The Swedish footballer has become one of Europe’s hottest commodities, with Man City, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AS Roma, AC Milan and few other top sides keen on his services.
Meanwhile, Lisandro Lopez has finally started proving his worth to the club and he is expected to succeed veteran Luisao in the starting line-up. The 27-year-old has scored 3 goals in 7 league appearances this season.
