Premier League giants Manchester United are weighing up January bid for Atletico Madrid stopper Jose Maria Gimenez, the Daily Mirror has suggested.
Manager Jose Mourinho plans to reinforce his back line after the Red Devils suffered three successive defeats and he has now set his sights on the Uruguayan defender.
The Portuguese tactician is a big fan of Gimenez and he will attempt to bring him to Old Trafford in the winter.
The 21-year-old finally enjoyed regular first team action last term as he managed 27 La Liga appearances, but he has since fallen behind Stefan Savic in the pecking order.
Having failed to make a single league appearance this term, Gimenez might be ready to consider leaving los Colchoneros.
Manchester United face Northampton Town in the EFL Cup third round hoping to make amends for the dismal run of results and they are 1/3 favourites to emerge victorious.
