Unlike Rafael van der Vaart and Cristiano Ronaldo, Bayern Munich forward, Lukas Podolski more than willingly spoke of his future during his nation’s Euro 2008 campaign. The forward who has been deployed mainly as a left midfielder during the European Championships for Germany said that he will not settle for a place on the bench at Bayern Munich.
“For me what matters at the moment is the Euros.” Said Podolski, according to The Mail on Sunday.
“Afterwards I will think about everything else.
“But if I can’t see the possibility of playing under Jurgen Klinsmann, you have to ponder.
“I am not a footballer to sit on the bench.”
Podolski has spent most of this past season on the bench at Bayern Munich after the partnership of Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose produced miraculous results for the newly crowned Bundesliga champions. But after announcing that he is considering his future at Bayern Munich, The Mail on Sunday reports that he has caught the eyes of Manchester United and Tottenham.
Manchester United could see the speedy striker as the perfect back-up plan that Louis Saha was supposed to give them while Tottenham hopes he could complete a quartet of strikers for the team – should Dimitar Berbatov not leave White Hart Lane.
