Everyone knew it was going to be an uphill challenge for Burton Albion tonight, but upon the team sheets being revealed prior to the game, that uphill challenge became virtually impossible. The Champions of England weren’t prepared to show any mercy in their pursuit of a place in the Carabao Cup Final, and in the end, they ran out 9-0 winners in one of the most one sided games you’re ever likely to see.

A horror show

One of the big issues coming into the game was the fact that many Brewers fans were stuck on the motorway, after an incident left them at standstill for hours. Thankfully the majority wound up getting to the stadium in time, but you have to wonder whether or not they should’ve bothered given the result.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring after just five minutes, and after that, Burton actually managed to hold them out for quite a while. It took until the 30th minute for Gabriel Jesus to double their advantage, before netting another just four minutes later. Zinchenko made it four heading into the half time interval, and it was clear from that point that we could be in for an embarrassment of a result.

Game over

That proved to be the case with Jesus getting another two goals, sandwiched between a goal from fan favourite Phil Folden. Kyle Walker and Riyad Mahrez got in on the act, before the referee put the visitors out of their misery with just two minutes of added time.

Man City will turn their attention towards hosting Wolves on Monday night, whereas Burton will return to life in League One against Gillingham.
