Manchester City have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig over the proposed transfer of Josko Gvardiol, according to multiple sources. The Croatia international is expected to complete his medical today (Thursday) if all goes to plan, and then it’s all about preparing and signing the necessary paperwork.
No source gives the transfer fee the two clubs have settled on, but they all keep mentioning the fact that Leipzig demanded at least €100 million for the services of the 21-year-old defender. If City have met their demands, Gvardiol will become the most expensive defensive signing in the history of the game.
Gvardiol is widely perceived as the player intended to replace Aymeric Laporte in Pep Guardiola’s squad, as the Spain international seeks to leave the Etihad due to playing a lot less than he’d have liked. With the likes of Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, John Stones and Nathan Ake to compete against, Gvardiol will surely have to work hard to earn a regular place in the team.
