Manchester City and River Plate confident of completing Julian Alvarez deal ahead of Monday deadline

Manchester City and River Plate remain deep in talks over the transfer of Julian Alvarez. Most issues around the deal have been resolved and the negotiations are now in the final stage, and according to Sky Sports, City are expected to pay a fee worth around £17 million for the services of the 21-year-old striker. There are still minor details to be thrashed out, but all sides involved are confident that the business will be completed before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Alvarez is expected to sign his contract as a Manchester City player between now and then, but he will remain on loan with his current club and move to England in the summer.

The Premier League champions tried to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur last summer in the wake of Sergio Aguero’s departure, but the North London club refused point-blank to sell their most prized asset for any money. With the England captain turning 30 this year, City have obviously turned redirected their efforts towards securing a more long-term solution in Alvarez.
