Manchester City and Wolves lead Premier League table after victories

A busy day of Premier League action kicked-off at Carrow Road where Norwich City drew 1-1 with Stoke City.

The home side took the lead in the 37th minute through a header from on-loan defender Ritchie De Laet.

The home side were reduced to ten men in the 63rd minute as defender Leon Barnett was dismissed for a foul on Jonathan Walters in the area, although the original offence looked to have taken place just outside the area.

However Norwich were reprieved as John Ruddy superbly saved Walters penalty kick. Stoke snatched a dramatic equaliser in injury-time, Kenwyne Jones heading home from Glenn Whelan’s pinpoint cross.

Elsewhere Wolves claimed their second victory of the season with a 2-0 win at home to Fulham. The home side were really slow to start but Fulham didn’t take advantage. And in the 42nd minute were made to pay.

Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle ran off two Fulham defenders before lashing the ball past Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer. Just three minutes later Wolves doubled their advantage.

Wolves defender Roger Johnson was unlucky to be denied by a post and Matthew Jarvis was on hand to scored from the rebound. Fulham attempted to get back into the game but couldn’t really get a foot hold back in the contest.

Fulham boss Martin Jol admitted after the match that Wolves deserved to win. Wolves will be delighted to have picked up their second consecutive win the season.

In the game of the day at the Reebok Stadium Manchester City defeated Bolton 3-2. City looked by far the more dangerous team in the first half and took the lead the 26th minute. Spanish midfielder David Silva doubled his tally of goals for the season with a long range effort, which the Bolton keeper probably should have done better with.

City continued to slightly dominate possession and got their reward with a second goal in the 37th minute. England midfielder Gareth Barry scoring from 25 yards with a superb effort which Jussi Jaaskelainen had no chance with.

Bolton however didn’t lie down and just two minutes later halved City’s lead. Former-City winger Martin Petrov produced a good cross and Croatian striker Ivan Klasnic was on hand to smash past Joe Hart in the City goal.

Bolton went into the half-time break in good heart, that didn’t last though. Just two minutes into the second half City extended their lead. Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko is starting to pay back some of huge transfer fee and he fired past Jaaskelainen for City’s third goal.

That didn’t quite kill of Bolton though as striker Kevin Davies headed home the Trotters second goal in the 63rd minute. Manchester City decided to take off big money signing Sergio Aguero and replaced him with unhappy striker Carlos Tevez, to a mixed reception from the City fans.

City managed to hang onto the lead though and will be pleased to have claimed their second victory out of  their Premier League season.
