With the FA Cup taking centre stage this weekend, all of the Premier League’s elite will not be seen again in top-flight action until January 16th.

While Manchester City might still be tipped as the standout contender to defend their domestic crown in 2024, both Arsenal and Liverpool still find themselves scrapping it out in the title chase.

With many expecting things to go down to the wire, we have taken a glance at who the bookmakers have installed as the Premier League’s leading title candidates this year.

Manchester City

While Manchester City might still find themselves tipped as a standout contender to make more Premier League history this season, it is fair to say that Pep Guardiola’s superstar squad have struggled to hit top gear with much stability.

However, although the Sky Blues might have opened the New Year sat five points adrift in the title chase, City have already proven that they are capable of producing a remarkable romp to the finish line.

Collecting a maiden Champions League title back in June following their 1-0 victory against Italian heavyweights Inter Milan, Guardiola’s side also became the first English club since 1999 to be crowned treble champions.

Signing off 2023 with back-to-back Premier League wins against relegation scrappers Sheffield United and Everton, the former Barcelona boss will also be excited to see both Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland make their respective returns.

Using last month’s FIFA Club World Cup success as a platform to build on, there is no doubt that City’s title rivals will be looking over their shoulders.

Liverpool

Shockingly missing out on a crucial Champions League ticket last season and coming under a huge amount of scrutiny, some had suggested that Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Anfield could be coming to an abrupt end.

However, while the Reds might have opened up the 2023/24 campaign tipped as a real title dark horse, Liverpool have continued to shine and certainly find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high.

Really firing on all cylinders and suffering just a single Premier League defeat so far this season, Liverpool have also gained a fearsome reputation for their continued success in the red half of Merseyside.

Opening the New Year with an action-packed 4-2 victory against Newcastle, Klopp’s men also hold a three-point buffer over the chasing pack.

While Liverpool might be facing a tricky month as they watch attacking talisman Mohamed Salah feature for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, some around Anfield believe that they can spring a major title upset in 2024.

Arsenal

Suffering Premier League heartbreak last season as they eventually missed out on the chance to get their hands on a first domestic crown since 2004, it is no secret that Arsenal were dreaming of the chance to go one step further this time around.

However, while Mikel Arteta’s young squad might have come flying out of the traps this season, the Gunners certainly limped their way into the New Year.

Despite breaking the bank over the summer as they snapped up the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, Arsenal signed off 2023 by mustering just a single win from any of their last seven appearances across all competitions.

Although Arteta’s side might have breezed their way to a Champions League knockout stage ticket last month, the one-time Manchester City coach appears to have some minor pressure mounting on his shoulders.

Missing out on the chance to climb to the top of the Premier League table and now five points adrift in the title chase, Arsenal face a real psychological test when they return to action later in the month.
