Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola did not sound too sure Joao Cancelo would return to the club from his loan at Bayern Munich at the end of the season in his pre-match press conference ahead of the team’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. He also refused to rule out the club signing a new player to fill the vacant position in the club.
Amid reports of strife between the Portugal international and the Catalan tactician, Cancelo lost his place in the starting XI. Despite his ability to play on either flank, Guardiola has been naming Nathan Ake on the left and young Rico Lewis on the right in his recent lineups. It eventually led to Cancelo leaving to join the Bundesliga champions for the rest of the season, and Bayern have the option to turn the deal permanent for €70 million.
However, according to various reports, Bayern will need to pay significantly less than that to make it happen, if they decide they want the 28-year-old fullback permanently.
