According to a recent report from Corriere dello Sport, Manchester City are closing in on the potential signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. The Italian club have reportedly lowered the asking price for the defender to €70 million plus bonuses, opening the door for a handful of clubs to try and make a move.
Manchester United are also still said to be in the mix, but when you think about big money moves in reference to a Premier League club, City tend to be the first ones that come to mind.
Koulibaly is quite clearly one of the most imposing and exciting defenders in world football today, and acquiring someone like that is obviously going to completely shift the defensive stability of any team.
City’s exit from the Champions League raised more than a few questions regarding their ability to compete at the highest level of European competition, and Koulibaly could help them answer those queries in a big way.
