Manchester City may have secured the services of Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and Ruben Dias from Benfica this summer, but it seems they aren’t done with defensive reinforcements just yet. According to The Telegraph, they are currently considering possibilities to improve their ranks on the left defensive flank, and are pondering a swoop for either Bayern Munich’s David Alaba or Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax.
Manager Pep Guardiola, who worked with Alaba at Bayern for three years, was often forced to deploy Oleksandr Zinchenko, a midfielder by trade, on the left side of his defence due to frequent and relatively long injury absences of Benjamin Mendy over the last few seasons. But now he seems determined to add another proper left-back to his squad, though any potential move in that area would apparently require Zinchenko to leave the Etihad.
Alaba has less than 12 months to run on his contract with the Bavarians and has been linked with departure before, while 28-year-old Tagliafico is bound to Ajax a year longer than that.
