Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, and according to Football Insider, the Premier League champions are considering a move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi in January to replace him.
Zubimendi was Rodri’s natural replacement in the Spain squad which won Euro 2024. He was linked most heavily with Liverpool after the tournament, but though his was initially interested, he eventually decided to reject a move to the Merseyside in order to stay at Sociedad, his boyhood club.
However, it has already been reported that he’s had second thoughts about that particular decision, and Manchester City could take advantage of the situation. The 25-year-old is contracted to Sociedad until 2027, but it’s believed he has a release clause of around €60 million which City would have no problems triggering.
It’s also been reported that Liverpool might return with a fresh offer for Zubimendi too, but manager Arne Slot has played the notion down by stating the club have “moved on”.
