Manchester City eyeing Otamendi deal

Manchester City could be set to pip rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to the Mail Online.

The Argentina has been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, though City are closing in on a deal for the defender as they look to strengthen their back line as they look to reclaim the Premier League trophy from Chelsea.

The transfer could come to fruition, not least due to the Spanish side still owing City money for Alvaro Negredo, who made the switch to the Mestalla Stadium last summer while Eliaquim Managala, who has failed to impress in England so far, could move to the La Liga outfit on loan as part of the deal.

Otamendi made thirty-eight appearances for Valencia last season, scoring six goals while he has twenty-five senior caps for his country with his last outing coming in last month’s Copa America final defeat to Chile.
