Although Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has recently stated his club will not be making any transfer moves during the January transfer window, the Premier League club have made a bid for a player you would have never expected.
According to El Nacional, the Citizens have made a formal bid for the transfer of Yangel Herrera, the 19-year-old Venezuela midfielder.
Herrera is a holding midfielder who can also operate as central defender. The Atletico Venezuela prospect caught the eye of the Premier League side with his impressive performances at the 2017 South American Youth Football Championship, although several other prominent European names have been alerted by his dominant displays.
One of the clubs thought to be extremely keen on the teenager is Benfica, but according to the reports from El Nacional, Manchester City have so far made the only official bid for the player.
One of the hottest Venezuelan prospects is eyed as a potential first-team player and a natural successor for Yaya Toure.
