Manchester City have long been linked with Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, and according to the Daily Mail, their interest in the Germany international is steadily increasing as they contemplate the way forward without Kevin De Bruyne.
With 408 appearances, 105 goals and 173 assists for the reigning Premier League champions, De Bruyne has arguably been the most important player in everything City have achieved since Pep Guardiola took the reins in 2016. But set to turn 34 in the summer and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it seems the time has come for both the player and the club to move on.
Wirtz has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United as well, but it seems the only competition City are truly likely to face for the signature of the 21-year-old is Bayern Munich.
Leverkusen are likely to demand a fee in excess of €100 million.
