Manchester City are considering bolstering their midfield in January, according to The Athletic.
Losing Rodri to a serious knee injury in September has left the Premier League champions in a difficult situation. They are exploring several options in the winter market, including Douglas Luiz of Juventus, a player who was part of City’s squad between 2017 and 2019.
The 26-year-old Brazil international joined Juve from Aston Villa last summer but has struggled for regular minutes, playing only 16 matches so far. City are looking to sign Luiz on loan until the end of the season, with no obligation to buy, although Juventus currently prefer a permanent sale or a loan with an obligation to purchase.
For City to pursue Luiz, Juve’s stance would need to change before the February 3 transfer deadline. Luiz is not City’s only target, but he remains a consideration if they decide to strengthen in midfield. City are also in the process of signing centre-backs Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras, as well as Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush. Interest in Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso is unlikely to advance in this window.
