Liam Delap of Derby County Academy, the son of former Stoke City defender and master of long throw-ins Rory, is close to agreeing a deal to join Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, according to Sky Sports.
Delap junior is a 16-year-old striker with bags of talent, whom the Premier League champions obviously consider worthy of an early punt on becoming a top player in the future. He has been impressive in his current setup, where he’s been working with his father as the coach, and he won the Golden Boot for England’s U-16 team at the Aegean Tournament in Turkey in January this year.
As for City, they’ve mostly been relying on expensive signings for their success rather than developing their own youth, which is something the likes of Brahim Diaz of Real Madrid and Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund will know all about. However, midfielder Phil Foden might say otherwise.
