Manchester City interested in Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes

Manchester City are interested in signing Nuno Mendes from Sporting Lisbon in the summer transfer window, according to Correio da Manha, as relayed by Sport Witness. Mendes has started pre-season training with Sporting after time off following the European Championship, but the left-back still expects to leave this summer.

Premier League champions City are keen on signing Mendes in the summer transfer window. However, the Citizens are reluctant to pay the €50 million that Sporting want for the teenager. The Portuguese giants are open to seeing the young left-back, but they would like to keep him on loan for next season.

Mendes has been at Sporting since 2012 and has come through the club’s youth academy. The 19-year-old Portugal international left-back scored one goal and gave one assist in 29 league games last season and also played twice in the Europa League.
