Manchester City join chase for Julian Weigl

Pep Guardiola is said to be prepared to go head on against his former club Barcelona in an attempt to land the talented Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl according to Diario AS.

The Catalans have been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old central midfielder who has been earning rave reviews for his impressive Bundesliga showings over the past two years.

Weigl is yet to reach his full potential this season after spending four months on the sidelines due to a broken ankle, but both Barcelona and Manchester City have identified the German teenage prodigy as their top target.

Eyed as a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets, the sensational Dortmund starlet is also seen as a natural successor for Yaya Toure and Fernandinho who are both out of contract at the Etihad next summer.

Manchester City have been in impressive form this season and the central midfield remains arguably the only obvious weakness in otherwise talent-packed squad.

Weigl is under contract until 2021 and both Barcelona and Manchester City will have to dig deep in their pockets to land their target.
