According to reports in France, Manchester City have joined the race to sign French defender Lucas Hernandez. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was said to be monitoring his situation, and now, it appears as if their bitter rivals are also invested in the idea of signing him. The 22-year-old played an important role in helping Les Bleus win the World Cup earlier this summer in Russia, which helped to raise his stock to levels that many couldn’t have anticipated.
Hernandez is reportedly interested in extending his current contract to 2024, which would also see his buyout clause almost double from €80 million to €150 million. Atletico Madrid are well aware of this, and given how much City and United have paid for players of this nature in the past, they may be inclined to sign Lucas to a new contract while being fully aware of his intention to leave for England the following year.
