Manchester City join race for Benatia

French daily newspaper L’Equipe is reporting that Manchester City are readying summer bid for AS Roma defender Mehdi Benatia.

The Moroccan has enjoyed a stunning debut season at Stadio Olimpico and has in turn become one of the hottest commodities in Italian Serie A.

And after Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United expressed their interest in the 27-year-old, Manchester City appear to be keen as well.

It is no secret Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini is looking for a perfect defensive partner for captain Vincent Kompany and Mehdi Benatia appears to be high on the Chilean’s wish list.

The Morocco international has been an integral part of second-best defence in Serie A, with Roma conceding just 24 goals in 37 league fixtures this term. And he has also managed no less than 5 goals in 32 league outings.

The Giallorossi face Genoa away in the final game of the season and they are 8/11 to end the campaign with a win.
