Manchester City One Win Away from Claiming First League Title Since 1968

Roberto Mancini

The English Premier League title race is all but finished, with City just needing to defeat Queens Park Rangers at the Etihad Stadium on 13 May to lift  their first league trophy since 1968.

City have posted a 17-1-0 record at the Etihad, while Mark Hughes’ Queens Park Rangers are 3-2-13 away from home this season.

Thus, expect Manchester to win the Premier League title in style on 13 May.

Now then, City kept their place at the top of the table after defeating Newcastle United at the Sports Direct Arena on Saturday.

A second-half brace from Ivorian Yaya Toure gave United’s noisy neighbours three points and edged them closer to the title.

Newcastle gave a valiant effort, but they could not quell with City’s quality in the end. Can you blame them? Surely not.

United Take Care of Business

On another note, Manchester United made City wait until the 13 May to celebrate their title, or potential title one might say.

The Red Devils took care of Premier League Swansea City courtesy of first-half strikes from Paul Scholes and Ashley Young.

Despite United’s victory, City are still in poll position to win the title. With that said, Sir Alex Ferguson is not conceding Premier League supremacy to City just yet.

“I’ve seen stranger things happen in this game of football,” he told Sky Sports.

“But I think the important thing is for us to go there [Sunderland away] in the right spirit, with the attitude to win the match, you never know, we’ll just hope.

“It gives us hope, we’ve got next week, QPR need a point and you never know. I just wish Sparky [Mark Hughes] was playing.”

Relegation Battle

With Wolverhampton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers surely headed for the English Championship, Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers are the three clubs desperately trying to avoid relegation.

Bolton had a great chance to tally three points on Saturday, but gave up a 2-0 lead at home against West Bromwich Albion.

Bolton conceded two goals in the final fifteen minutes of the game, including a 90th minute equaliser.

Can they possibly recover from that? I don’t believe so, especially since Queens Park Rangers defeated Stoke City to move two points clear of Bolton heading into the final week of the season.

Predictions

City will win the English Premier League title on their home ground on 13 May.

Bolton Wanderers will join Blackburn Rover and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Championship next season. No ‘Wanderers’ in the Premier League next season.
