Having missed out on their top January target, Alexis Sanchez, who ended up putting on a Manchester United shirt, Premier League leaders Manchester City are rolling up their sleeves.
According to reports emerging from Goal, the Citizens are preparing to ramp up their efforts to sign Fred and Aymeric Laporte before the winter market closes.
Laporte was initially linked with Manchester City in 2016 but opted out of accepting the Citizens’ offer and Pep Guardiola is now determined to make this deal happen.
City have missed out on a number of targets recently, including Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Sanchez and are said to be preparing to flex their muscle and additionally strengthen their squad at the back and in the centre of the park.
Alongside the €65 million-valued Laporte, Manchester City will go forward with an assault on another long-term target of theirs – Fred. The Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder had been on Citizens’ radar since December and it is reported that Guardiola is confident a deal will go through before the end of the transfer window.
