Premier League holders Manchester City are reportedly weighing up a summer move for Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld, the Daily Mail has revealed.
The Citizens have yet to find a perfect defensive partner for captain Vincent Kompany, with Eliaquim Mangala and Martin Demichelis both struggling for consistency.
As a result, they appear ready to make a move on Belgian stopper Toby Alderweireld, who has impressed during the loan spell with Southampton.
The 25-year-old does not appear to have a long-term future at Vicente Calderon and Atletico will probably decide to cash in on him next summer.
And while the Saints have an option to buy the player outright for £6.8 million, los Colchoneros can pay £1.5 million to remove the clause and then sell Alderweireld to whomever they want to.
The Belgian international has started 16 Premier League matches since joining from Atletico, but he is currently sidelined with a hamstring problem.
