According to media reports Premier League Manchester City are open to selling former-Togo international striker Emmanuel Adebayor in the January transfer window.
The gangly striker is currently out of favour at Eastlands and has stated he would welcome a move.
A few months ago I wrote an article about him saying too much in the press and not doing much on the pitch.
He clearly mustn’t read my editorials because he still hasn’t done a lot for City on the pitch and is still talking in the press!
Season
When he joined Arsenal he was being touted as Thierry Henry’s long-term replacement but his relationship with Arsenal turned sour toward the end of his Gunners career as he demanded a move to AC Milan. He attracted the interest of the Serie A giants by having one superb season, which to date was his best.
When Milan’s dropped their interest in him Adebayor sulked and ended up moving to Manchester City for £25million. Gunner’s fans have since brand him a traitor and a majority of them were glad to see the back of him.
Trouble
Every club he has been at he’s caused trouble. At Arsenal he put the cat amongst the pigeons by declaring he wanted to move to Milan and then basically demanded a move. Now he’s at Manchester City he has thrown his dummy out of his pram and guess what he has again asked for a move yet again.
Move
It now looks likely that the 26 year-old will leave the club in January. He told Belgian Sport/Foot Magazine of his intentions to move in January saying: I don’t know what I did wrong to Roberto Mancini, but he never makes me play. I’m going to change air during the transfer window in January.
“And I can tell you that City has already reached an agreement with Juventus for a loan. I therefore expect to be able to leave in December.”
He is a player who shines in his early career at clubs before becoming bored or disillusioned with life at that particular club. If Juve can secure him on a loan deal until the end of the season he may have a decent spell for them, he probably won’t be there long enough to get bored.
Money
Adebayor seems to go from big payday to big payday. He has been labelled a mercenary by some fans because after awhile at a club he moves on and picks up another big pay packet and signing on-fee at another club.
I think that’s slightly harsh to say he is only moving for money but I’m sure he doesn’t lose any sleep about collecting his massive wages.
Substitute
Emmanuel Adebayor has become a very expensive benchwarmer at Manchester City. Some would say they can afford to pay him not to play, but the current situation isn’t good for anybody. With City playing with a lone striker in recent months Adebayor has struggled to get into the first eleven.
Current first choice for that lone striker role is Argentinian international Carlos Tevez. He gives the team far more than the ex-Monaco striker. He scores goals and works hard for the team.
I don’t think anybody could say that Adebayor is a tireless worker but Tevez definitely is. If I was the City manager there wouldn’t even be a decision to make if it was a choice between Tevez and Adebayor for that lone striker role. Tevez would win every time and it seems that’s how City boss Roberto Mancini feels.
I don’t believe Adebayor leaving would be a big loss to the City squad. He is bad for the dressing room atmosphere and isn’t good enough to be in the team. When he leaves it will be for the good of everybody.
