Mark Hughes will not be short of spending money with his new club, Manchester City. Following the public announcements that deals for Ronaldinho and Jo are not far off, reports in England suggest that there might be another three players which will join Hughes’ ranks. The Manchester Evening News reported that Dejan Stankovic, Pablo Zabaleta and Andrei Arshavin are the three targets.
Dejan Stankovic has reportedly been told that he can leave Inter Milan following the appointment of Jose Mourinho. The creative midfielder could be a brilliant addition to the City squad if the team wants to catch up with the top four.
Pablo Zabaleta’s signature would make a little less sense. The City central defence is covered brilliantly by Richard Dunne and Micah Richards, and Zabaleta seems to be good enough to hold down a starting spot at Manchester City. His signature would probably mean that one of Dunne or Richards will be leaving the club this summer and there is no shortage of interest toward either.
Andrei Arshavin has been brilliant in his Zenit St. Petersburg’s exploits in the UEFA Cup this past season and the winger could provide an alternative style of play to that of Petrov or Elano. However the Russian club have announced that the player will only be allowed to leave if a deal is struck by June 20th.
Manchester City look to mean what they say about their desire to challenge city rivals United. Their acquisitions, should they go through, would dwarf those of many clubs of similar stature, but there will always be the problem of Tottenham.
