According to Bild, Manchester City are interested in signing Ilay Elmkies from German club Hoffenheim. The 18 year old from Israel made quite the impression during the clubs’ UEFA Youth Cup triumph over City, with Pep Guardiola being particularly impressed. The senior teams also faced off in the Champions League this week, with City scoring late in the game to overcome Hoffenheim 2-1.
In terms of this potential deal, though, it’s interesting to see Pep going after so many youngsters these days. While he’s always had a great eye for talent it really does feel like he’s looking ahead to the future in a big way, by building a squad that has a nice mixture of veteran stars and future big names.
Manchester City are currently in the midst of attempting to retain their Premier League title, whilst also attempting to take over European football with the end goal being to lift the Champions League trophy.
