Ferran Torres has left Manchester City to join Barcelona in a move that will see the Premier League champions bank in €55 million straight away, with further €10m to come in the form of add-ons.
However, City have no intention of signing a replacement, according to The Times. Instead, manager Pep Guardiola intends to give more game-time to Cole Palmer.
Palmer is a product of the club’s academy, promoted to the first team in the summer this year. At the age of 19, he has 12 senior appearances to his name, along with two goals, and he’ll be hoping to contribute sufficiently as City strive to defend their title.
Meanwhile, Torres has returned to Spain, having left Valencia to join City in 2020. Currently out of action through a metatarsal fracture, the 22-cap Spain international scored 16 goals in 43 games in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side over the last 18 months. It is believed he was Barcelona’s preferred attacking target for the January window.
