The midfielder, who attended Manchester City’s Academy, is at a crossroads, as he needs to decide whether to stay at Manchester City and have very little game-time or ask for a loan in the hope of getting signed by a club that would give him more minutes on the pitch.
The 19-year-old is thought to be a great talent, but is up against his club peers who will all try to prove they are fitting replacements for David Silva. This season Foden has only played 11 minutes for the City’s first team, but he could be handed a start in Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash away to Preston North End.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes that Foden should stay put and have faith in Pep Guardiola’s long-term plan. He admits that waiting patiently in the dark is hard to do, but is confident that Guardiola will make Foden a “permanent fixture” in the club’s starting line-up in 12 months’ time rather than spend large sums of money replacing David Silva, who announced his departure from Manchester City after the 2019/2020 season.
