Ruben Amorim, who makes his debut as the Manchester United manager on Sunday, has made it clear he has no intention of raiding former club Sporting Lisbon for signings in the January window, but he made no such promise regarding next summer. And according to the Mirror, he’s keen on bringing Viktor Gyokeres to Old Trafford ahead of the 2025/26 season, but his employers are set to face competition from local rivals, Manchester City.
Gyokeres has caught the attentions of a number of clubs with stellar performances this season, with 24 goals and four assists to his name in just 19 matches across all competitions. Meanwhile, only Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton have scored less than 12th-place United in the Premier League, and signing the 26-year-old Sweden international, whom Amorim obviously knows very well, makes perfect sense.
City, on the other hand, do not have a suitable replacement for Erling Haaland in their ranks since they sold Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, and their shocking home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday is their fifth loss in a row in all competitions, the worst run they’ve ever had under Pep Guardiola.
