The race for the signature of RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano seems to have picked up serious pace. Sky Sports are reporting that both Manchester clubs are interested in bringing the defender to the city in the north-west of England.
Upamecano’s stock has risen notably over the last year or so, and a number of clubs are constantly being credited with interest, not least Real Madrid who see him as a good option to replace captain Sergio Ramos in the team one day.
United need to add competition to their back line, with captain Harry Maguire the only centre-back to have nailed down a regular spot in that area in the starting XI. On the other hand, the long injury lay-off of Aymeric Laporte and the lack of a proper replacement are believed to be major reasons why City haven’t been able to keep up with Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title. It seems both clubs see Upamecano as a potential solution to their respective problems.
The young Frenchman’s contract with the Bundesliga side is about to enter its final year and reportedly has a release clause set at €60 million.
