Manchester pair set for Stones battle

Manchester City and Manchester United are set to battle for the services of England centre-back John Stones, according to the Daily Star.

The rivals, who are preparing for their first season’s under Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho respectively are both keen on signing the Everton defender, who is valued at around £50m.

Chelsea have previously been linked with a move for the twenty-two year old who moved to Goodison Park from Barnsley in January 2013.

Since arriving on Merseyside, the defender has racked up ninety-five appearances in all competitions, with his one and only goal for the Toffees so far coming in a win over Manchester United towards the end of the 2014/15 Premier League campaign.

Having been capped twelve times for England’s U21s he was handed his senior international debut in 2014.

He was an unused substitute as Roy Hodgson’s men drew with Russia in their Euro 2016 opener on Saturday evening.
