Manchester United and Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Everton midfielder James McCarthy, reports Daily Star.
The 23-year-old footballer has caught the eye of Manchester rivals with some impressive performances during his debut season at Goodison Park, and he is now being linked with a move away from the club.
Since there was no time for proper negotiations over the player’s contract on transfer deadline day last summer, Everton promised to offer the midfuelder a new and improved deal should his performances be up to the desired standard.
And while McCarthy believes he has done well enough to earn a new contract, the Toffees have yet to start talks over a new deal.
Manchester United and Manchester City are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to act if the player expresses his desire to leave.
James McCarthy has largely impressed since joining from Wigan Athletic, making 38 Premier League appearances and scoring 1 goal.
