Manchester United and Barcelona reach full agreement but De Jong still not keen on leaving Camp Nou

After long negotiations, Manchester United and Barcelona have finally agreed on everything about the proposed transfer of Frenkie de Jong, who would be joining his former coach Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, but there is still an issue to be resolved. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, De Jong is still not keen on leaving the Catalan club at all.

The agreement is set at a total amount of €85 million, which is what Barcelona were said to be demanding from the start, though €10m of that is supposed to be in the form of add-ons.

But even with everything agreed between the two clubs, it remains to be seen how United intend to approach the negotiations over personal terms with a player who is contracted to Barcelona for four more years and simply doesn’t want to leave.

The 25-year-old Dutch international is obviously a valuable asset and his departure would represent a way for Barcelona to raise funds – they need to do so given that they’re about to spend a lot on Raphinha and possibly Lewandowski. But the sense in getting rid of a player who started 30 La Liga matches last term and is arguably yet to reach his prime, not to mention keen on remaining at the club, has to be questioned.
