Manchester United managed to break the winning streak of arch-rivals Liverpool by holding them to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. In fact, they came close to taking all three points through a controversial first-half goal by Marcus Rashford, but Liverpool substitute Adam Lallana denied them the joy by setting the score level late on.
Rashford’s opener came from a lightning-quick counterattack which followed a clash between United defender Victor Lindelof and Liverpool forward Divock Origi, in which the Belgian appeared to have been fouled. VAR reviewed the situation and judged that no infringement had been made, thus confirming the goal.
And while Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was obviously unhappy about the decision, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised the performance of referee Martin Atkinson.
