Manchester United confirm interest in Van Wolfswinkel

Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has confirmed that United are tracking Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

The Dutch forward only arrived to Sporting earlier this summer, but impressive performances at the start of the season saw him attract interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.

The 22-year-old is unlikely to be moving clubs any time soon, but the Red Devils admit they are keeping tabs on the promising forward.

“We have obviously known Van Wolfswinkel for a long time,” United assistant manager Mike Phelan told Record.

“He is a young striker, very talented, who has been growing in the last few seasons.

“A club like Manchester United carefully follow many players all over the world.”
