Manchester United are currently considering whether to try and sign Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins this summer, according to TalkSPORT.
With 19 Premier League goals, Watkins has equaled Christian Benteke’s Villa record for most goals scored in a single top-flight campaign, and he still has a chance to get clear of the current D.C. United man when his team take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the final round on Sunday.
At Old Trafford, the 28-year-old is believed to fit the profile of attacker they wish to acquire during the upcoming transfer window, but getting a deal done is likely to prove extremely difficult. Watkins signed a new five-year contract with Villa last summer, and with his team now qualified for next season’s Champions League, the price is expected to be hefty and there’s still the matter of convincing him to give up playing in UEFA’s elite club competition in 2024/25 in favour of a move to Old Trafford.
United are currently eighth in the Premier League table and locked in a battle against Chelsea and Newcastle for the places leading into the two lesser European competitions.
