Daily Mirror understands that Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Sporting Lisbon defender Mauricio.
With Rio Ferdinand nearing the end of his playing career and Nemanja Vidic’s contract due to expire at the end of the campaign, the Red Devils are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements.
According to Daily Mirror, Brazilian stopper Mauricio has become the latest target for the Old Trafford outfit.
Manchester United scouts had the player watched in last week’s Taca de Portugal derby against Benfica, which is enough to suggest the Premier League side are seriously thinking about making their interest concrete in the summer.
Mauricio only arrived at Sporting Lisbon from Sport Recife in the summer, but has done well to start eight league games, scoring one goal in the process.
Following a bright start to the season, Sporting sit just three points adrift of league leaders Porto, and the Lions are 8/1 for the Primeira Liga title.
