Manchester United are in pole position to sign Juventus defender Stephan Lichsteiner on a free transfer, according to the Express.
The Switzerland international is entering the final six months of his contract with the Serie A Champions and talks of an extended deal with the Old Lady have broken down.
Since moving to Juve from Lazio in the summer of 2011, the 30 year old has made over a hundred league appearances and has chipped in with ten league goals while he has been part of the squads that won three consecutive Italian championships.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with a move for the right-back, but it is Manchester United who appear to be winning the race to secure his services.
Lichsteiner, who began his career with Grasshoppers and has also played for Ligue 1 side Lille, has seventy international caps and turned out for his country in both the 2010 and 2014 World Cup finals.
