Manchester United are readying summer bid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Oscar de Marcos, The Mirror understands.
The talented midfielder caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson when United faced Athletic in Europa League last 16 stage and the Scottish manager is now ready to step up his interest in the Spaniard.
The Mirror claims that Fergie has instructed his chief scout to watch De Marcos in Bilbao’s Europa League semi-final clash against Sporting Lisbon.
Sir Alex sees the 22-year-old as a perfect replacement for Paul Scholes, but he wants to make sure De Marcos has what it takes to succeed at Old Trafford.
While struggling to earn a starting berth at San Mames over the last couple of years, the talented midfielder was given a new lease on life by Marcelo Bielsa and is now seen as one of the key players in the side.
De Marcos has been in impressive form this season, scoring 4 goals in 30 La Liga games, while bagging as many in 12 Europa League fixtures.
