Manchester United bounced back from last week’s slip up at Craven Cottage to record a comprehensive win over West Ham and thus inflicted even more misery on Avram Grant’s side.
Alex Ferguson’s men started the game slowly and they needed almost 20 minutes to create the first real chance, with Nani sending a free-kick over the bar. Just few minutes later, the Portuguese winger fired in a very good shot, which was chipped by Rob Green and onto the crossbar.
United broke the deadlock few minutes after the half-hour mark through Wayne Rooney, who coolly slotted home from the penalty spot after Ryan Giggs was fouled by Jonathan Spector.
The goal clearly took some pressure of United as they started pushing forward even harder and Alex Ferguson’s men had enough time to miss two very good opportunities through Darren Fletcher and Nani.
The second half started in the same manner and the Red Devils doubled the lead within just five minutes of the restart, when Nani capped a very good attacking run with a left-foot shot into the top corner.
The only time the Hammers really threatened their opponents was when Kieron Dyer hit the woodwork, and they were soon punished for the miss with Dimitar Berbatov rounding off a good team move with an acrobatic finish to make it 3:0 midway through the second half.
