Jose Maria Gimenez is a man wanted by a whole host of clubs across Europe, and the latest side to join the race for the Uruguayan’s signature is Premier League giant Manchester United, according to the Mirror.
The centre half has seen fairly sporadic game time at Atletico Madrid, but at just 22-years of age it is understandable that manager Diego Simeone is easing the Uruguayan into things. Whenever he has played though Gimenez has not looked out of his depth, and has been instrumental in some impressive performances as part of a well drilled Atleti defence.
Manchester United have certainly not been struggling when it comes to defending, and are currently the stingiest team in the English top flight having conceded just six times in 13 games. They have been hit by various injuries however, most notably Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, and summer signing Victor Lindelof has been less than inspiring when he has filled in as the backup.
With that in mind a move for Gimenez could be the perfect way for Jose Mourinho’s men to continue their pursuit of their eternal rivals Manchester City.
