Manchester United are weighing up summer bid for Everton full-back Leighton Baines, according to The Mirror.
Sir Alex Ferguson believes the 27-year-old would be a perfect replacement for the ageing Patrice Evra.
Everton boss David Moyes will not be keen to sell as he aims to keep the current crop of players together, but club’s poor financial situation means that any big money offer would be hard to resist.
The highly rated player has been earning rave reviews for his performances this season and he is on the verge of winning the battle with Ashley Cole to start England’s first game at Euro 2012.
Baines has a contract until June 2015 at Goodison Park, meaning that he won’t come on the cheap, while it remains to be seen whether the player would be interested in a move to Old Trafford.
While being an integral part of third-best defence in the Premiership, the England international also proved his goalscoring abilities by bagging 4 goals in 32 Premier League games.
