The Daily Mail is reporting that Manchester United continue to show an interest in Porto starlet James Rodriguez, but have been stunned by the transfer fee that the Portuguese side are demanding.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been keeping tabs on the Colombian international for a number of months now and even sent one of his scouts out to Portugal to watch him put in a superb display on Friday evening, scoring two goals in a 5-0 victory over Maritimo.
It is thought that when the English Premier League side last enquired about the winger, Porto valued him at £24 million. However, now it is being suggested that a deal between the player and the club means that it will take £36 million to secure his services.
Rodriguez is clearly a huge talent, but Ferguson is not likely to spend that much cash on the 21-year-old in the January, or summer transfer window.
United will now try and lower the asking price and may even offer out-of-favour midfielder Nani as part of an exchange deal, which would see the fee lowered.
It is a very interesting story to keep an eye on and we shall see how much the English giants are prepared to spend.
